The Catholic Diocese of Nsukka in Enugu State has budgeted N335 million for the Episcopal ordination and installation of its new bishop.
Announcing the budget in Enugu on Tuesday, a former Minister of Information and Chairman of the organising committee, Chief Nnia Nwodo, said
the committee had mappedout strategies to raise the fund through its finance sub-committee. Nwodo said the committee had reached out to the people of Nsukka living in different parts of the country as part of its efforts to raise the money. He also said the committee had lined up luncheons in Enugu, Nsukka, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Lagos, and called on the people to donate generously. “We like to beckon on all Nsukka people to respond to this call, irrespective of ourpolitical, religious or social difference. “We expect them to donate generously to this that has brought most of us together,’’ he said. Nwodo said the ordination would take place on July 4 in Nsukka, adding that upto 50 bishops, 1000 priests and 5000 layfaithful, were expected to honour the occasion. Pope Francis had on April 13 nominated Monsignor Godfrey Onah, the Vice Rectorof the Pontifical Urban University in Rome, as the bishop-designate of Nsukka following the retirement of Bishop Francis Okobo, on grounds of age.
